Kesha's Final Appeal to Exit Her Contact With Alleged Abuser Dr. Luke Has Failed in Court

Kesha's Final Appeal to Exit Her Contact With Alleged Abuser Dr. Luke Has Failed in Court

Trigger warning: This article discusses rape and sexual abuse.

The Supreme Court of New York has rejected Kesha's final appeal to leave her Sony/Kemosabe contract with music producer and songwriter Dr. Luke.

The court ruled that the evidence put forward at Kesha's appeal was insufficient and decided to reject it on this basis.

"Kesha's proposed amendments are palpably insufficient and devoid of merit," the court's decision read.

"We have considered Kesha's remaining arguments... and find them unavailing."

The singer's appeal comes after a lengthy court battle between the two that began when she first launched a legal case against Dr. Luke and his Sony label, Kemosabe, for allegedly drugging and raping her in a hotel in 2008.

She was unsuccessful in this claim due to the statute of limitations (the time period in which you can take a crime to trial) for sexual assault being five years, and for her claim that the sexual assault was a hate crime motivated by gender.

Dr. Luke has continued to deny these allegations and his defamation case against Kesha is still being considered by the courts.
