Dr. Luke Will Let Kesha Perform At The Billboard Music Awards After All; See Her Practice With Ben Folds

Trigger warning: This article discusses rape and sexual abuse.
Earlier this week it was reported that Kemosabe Records, belonging to Dr. Luke, had blocked Kesha from performing at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards. The label has since released a statement confirming that Kesha is allowed to perform, now that she’s confirmed that there’ll be no statement made on stage about her ongoing legal stoush with Dr. Luke. Billboard has the full wording: “Kesha’s performance on the Billboard Music Awards was always approved, in good faith. Approval was only suspended when Kemosabe learned Kesha was to use the performance as a platform to discuss the litigation. Now that Kemosabe has obtained assurances, that it is relying upon, from Kesha, her representatives and Dick Clark Productions that neither Kesha nor her supporters will use the performance as such a platform, the approval has been restored." The singer is set to perform a cover of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me, Babe”. Watch a clip of her testing it out with Ben Folds in Los Angeles yesterday. It’s… pretty moving. After learning that she would be able to perform at the Billboard Music Awards, Kesha posted the following to Instagram:
Back in April, a New York judge denied Kesha’s request to be freed from her Sony contract. (Sony owns Kemosabe.) The singer had been seeking release from the contract, suggesting the label had forced her to work with Dr. Luke. Kesha had previously accused Dr. Luke (aka Lukasz Gottwald) of having drugged and raped her. Dr. Luke has denied all allegations. Are you experiencing sexual assault or domestic and family violence?
