Katy Perry Visits a Theme Park, Takes on Trump in "Chained to the Rhythm" Music Video

Katy Perry may be moving on to “purposeful pop”, but dammit, she won’t give up confectionery-coloured music videos for anyone.
The new video for her (kinda) political single “Chained to the Rhythm” marries Tomorrowland, a movie that no one remembers, with 1984, a book and movie that feels more current every day.
In it, you can see Katy and her Capitol-esque pals in an approximation of a “liberal bubble”: a 1950s-themed theme park where everyone dresses like, well, Katy Perry.
Her mind is eventually freed (from the rhythm? The metaphor gets a little muddled at this point) by the revolutionary rhymes of Skip Marley.
Katy was an early-adopter of anti-Trump sentiment (more than can be said of, ahem, a certain pop nemesis), but politically-themed music is new ground for her. Find out if the collision of infectious dance melodies and despairing glimpses at our modern existence works below.
