Katy Perry Will Not Be Pulled Back Into Her Taylor Swift Feud (Except Just This Once)

We’re entering year five of the Katy Perry-Taylor Swift feud, with no sign of reconciliation on the horizon.

And with both artists set to spruik new albums in 2017, expect both of them to inevitably be called upon to comment on their bad… no, sorry, we can’t bring ourselves to say it. Not anymore.

Katy Perry, who actually has new music to promote, is first off the block, and Entertainment Weekly wasted no time asking if her upcoming album included “a reaction to [Swift’s number one single] ‘Bad Blood’”.

Perry, perhaps recognising that the media narrative of pop star feuds is tinged with sexism and is far from a priority in an age where the literal President of the United States might be working to strip away healthcare from women, refused to be baited on the subject. For a bit.

First, she opened with a warning. “One thing to note is: You can’t mistake kindness for weakness and don’t come for me,” Perry began, before clarifying, “that’s not to any one person and don’t quote me that it is, because it’s not.”

“Honestly, when women come together and they decide to unite, this world is going to be a better place; period end of story,” she added.

But then, some tea: “But, let me say this: Everything has a reaction or a consequence so don’t forget about that, okay, honey. [Laughs] We got to keep it real, honey.”

Perry continued to insist that her record is “not about anyone else” and may not even be about her.

Honestly, we’re just hoping this is building up to some kind of Perry-Swift duet.
