Kanye Called Out Beyoncé, Begged Jay Z To Phone Him And Then Went Home After Three Songs In Latest Rewarding Concert

Kanye West simply had to wait six more weeks and he could’ve ended 2016 on a high – and no, we’re not just referring to his elevated status on that floating tour stage.
A brief recap. Though the release of The Life Of Pablo in February was undeniably botched, Kanye was spared any embarrassment on account of it being an absolute work of genius. Besides, once it was finally freed from Tidal’s clutches and made available for purchase in more traditional, less frustrating formats, it went to #1 worldwide.
He’d go on to produce two of the most talked about music videos of the years: “Famous” and “Fade”. He earned admiration for the way in which he fled to be with his wife, Kim Kardashian, after she was held up in Paris. And, most notably, he triumphed in the years-long beef with Taylor Swift, thanks to Snapchat.
Everything was coming up Kanye.
But then, he got talking.
On Friday, West was booed at a California concert where he told the audience he would have voted for Donald Trump (if he’d voted, that is).
It was a confusing revelation from a man who donated to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign as recently as 2015.
If we wanted to be generous – and with Kanye, we always do – we would say that his endorsement of Donald Trump was purely based on semiotics, rather than ideology.
West did, after all, reiterate his support for the #blacklivesmatter movement, gay marriage and women’s rights after offering Trump his endorsement (based purely it seems on his politically incorrect debate style).
Ye also took the opportunity to confirm his plans for a 2020 run, which we once thought was just a joke, but surely we are living in a post-joke world now.
Then, two days later, West took to the stage in Sacramento and called out Beyoncé.
For this, there can be no justification.
After playing only three songs, West complained about Beyoncé allegedly demanding victory over him at the MTV VMAs, despite him taking a stand for her back in the day by storming the VMA stage when Swift defeated Bey's "Single Ladies".
“I went down seven years on behalf of [you],” he said.
“I was hurt, because I heard that you wouldn’t perform [at the VMAs] unless you won ‘Video of the Year’ over me and over ‘Hotline Bling’.”
“Now don’t go trying to dis Beyoncé,” he told the crowd, unconvincingly. “She is great. Taylor Swift is great,” he also added, even more unconvincingly.
“But sometimes, we be playing the politics too much and forgetting who we are just to win.”
Though we fully believe Kanye would hold a grudge over a VMA (!), of all awards, it’s very likely that he’s mostly annoyed Bey and Jay Z still haven’t arranged a play date between Blue Ivy and North West. West updated the crowd on his dying relationship with his former mentor by begging Jay to phone him again, following his first request in October.
“Jay Z, call me bro. You still ain’t call me. Jay Z, I know you got killers. Please don’t send them at my head. Just call me.”
BTW, Kid Cudi turned up to play with Kanye and squash their beef at this same concert, which would have been a really special experience for the crowd, if West didn’t call off the show after three songs.
You can watch his sermons – and unceremonious concert-cancelling – below. But be warned: bad language abounds.
