Kaitlyn Dever's Emmys Snub for "Unbelievable" Is the Most Unbelievable Snub of All

While the coronavirus pandemic has stopped production on many television series, it has not stopped the 2020 Emmy Awards nominations from rolling in.

Nominees were announced overnight and, as always, there are some massive surprises and simply unforgivable snubs.

In many ways, the internet is happy with how the noms unfolded. Regina King's series Watchmen is leading the charge with a whopping 26 noms, while Disney+'s The Mandalorian has been honoured with a massive 15 nominations.

Stan's popular series Normal People nabbed four nominations, with Paul Mescal nominated in the Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category.

Plus, the web is going wild over Zendaya being nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her incredible work in HBO's Euphoria.

But that's enough of the good news.

We know that with any awards show, there are going to be some glaring snubs. And while the series and performers nominated for the 2020 Emmy Awards undoubtedly deserved their noms, we cannot look past the biggest snub of all: Kaitlyn Dever.

Dever's performance as Marie Adler in Netflix's Unbelievable, one of the most important shows of 2019, was exceptionally compelling and emotionally complex. Based on a true story, the eight-episode series centres on Marie, who reports being raped by a masked intruder in her home to police. Except, they don't believe her, and accuse her of fabricating her harrowing story.

Dever chose not to emulate the real Marie's accent or mannerisms, yet her understated and honest performance still captivated viewers.

On the other hand, her co-star Toni Collette has been nominated for Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.

Of course, Collette's performance was also outstanding as Colorado detective Grace Rasmussen, but it was Dever that truly catapulted the series to the next level.

Sure, Dever isn't the only actor/actress to be snubbed this year. Reese Witherspoon was also snubbed out of acting nominations for Big Little Lies, Little Fires Everywhere and The Morning Show.

On top of that, despite Mescal being nominated for Normal People, Daisy Edgar-Jones was left out of the Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie category.

There was also no nomination for Russell Crowe, who was completely unrecognisable when playing Roger Ailes in The Loudest Voice.

In fact, let's not even mention the fact that Baby Yoda wasn't nominated for his exquisite work in The Mandalorian. He'll just have to settle for being a cultural icon instead.

However, Dever's snub is particularly shocking, especially considering she was was previously nominated for a 2020 Golden Globe for playing Marie.
