Just How Bad Is Katy Perry's "Swish Swish" Video? (It Is Very Bad)

We don’t know what is what.

Katy Perry has released the video for “Swish Swish” ahead of her MTV VMAs hosting gig, and the internet is in agreement: It’s one of the most remarkable self-owns in recent pop history.

The clip, in which Perry leads a rag-tag team of basketballers to victory against brawnier competitors, is packed full of C-grade celebrity cameos and painfully unfunny physical comedy.

Also, if you were hoping that Perry had at least evaded being problematic with her latest video, you are going to be disappointed, thanks to Katy dubbing herself “Kobe Perry” and putting herself on a “Kobe Sweat” drip; a reference to Kobe Bryant, the NBA legend once accused of sexual assault. (The charges against him were eventually dropped. But still! This seems like it would have been an easy controversy to avoid.)

It’s almost as if Perry, panicking about the release of Taylor Swift’s imminent clap-back single (which is now totally here), quickly decided to tank her Swift-targeted takedown by tying it to the most embarrassing footage imaginable.

Except, we know for a fact that this has been in the works for several months, which is perhaps even more dispiriting.

Anyway, watch it below.

The question is, which bit is worst? The Kobe references? The star power of Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo and The Mountain from Game of Thrones? How unfunny it all is? The fact it pulls the great Terry Crews, Molly Shannon and the just-now-famous Glow cast into its muck?

You decide!
