Is Luigi Dead in "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate"? Maybe!

Pray for Luigi.

Today, Nintendo debuted a trailer for their upcoming Switch game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which sees the platform’s classic characters beat each other to a (bloodless) pulp.

However, during the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct presentation, Nintendo shared footage of the internet’s favourite green boy, Luigi, getting straight-up murdered by, umm, Death, in a mash-up with Castlevania.

Yes, Nintendo’s introduction to their latest party game began with Luigi having his soul scythed out of his body, leaving him dead on the floor. Fun!

we're all joking about luigi being dead but what if they remove him from the roster & we never see him in another game after this, that would be pretty funny tbh

Thankfully, Nintendo UK chimed in on Twitter to cool everyone’s jets, offering, without further elaboration:

Sure Nintendo, but does this mean Luigi will be playable in his traditional form, or are we now dealing with a Ghost Luigi?

And seeing how Nintendo killed off Mario in another trailer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate back in June, you have to wonder: Why does Nintendo keep torturing the Mario brothers, and, by extension, us?

We’ll hopefully have answers when the game arrives on the Switch this December. It comes with 103 stages in total and 900-plus songs. New characters include Castlevania’s Simon Belmont.
