Internet Trolls Failed to Kill "Captain Marvel" Box Office Success

While reviews are lukewarm, Captain Marvel has still managed to pull off being a commercial success.

For a lot of angry people on the internet, superhero movies that attempted to address Hollywood's issue with diversity were seen as "divisive" and deserving of a boycott.

Captain Marvel was a classic example of one of these movies after lead actor, Brie Larson, made comments about wanting less "white males" in her press pack.

But despite the backlash and some pretty average reviews, its box office numbers confirm it was, indeed, a smash.

In the film's opening weekend, it raked in a phenomenal $USD455 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.

For context, that's the second biggest foreign opening weekend for a superhero movie ever, trailing behind Avengers: Infinity War, and also the sixth biggest opening, globally, of all time.

Not too bad for a film that tanked in reviews before anyone had actually seen it due to some seriously upset adult babies with an appetite for sabotage.
