Is New Movie “The Idea Of You” About This Boyband Member? We Investigate.

Baby you light up my world like nobody else? 

You’re at a concert. And your favourite singer/band is on the stage singing a romantic melody.

Suddenly their eyes meet yours and you just know this is the start of a beautiful love story.

Don’t lie, we’ve all had this daydream once (or more times than once) before.

But it turns out this daydream has become a movie starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine.

The new film, The Idea of You, is about a mum Solene Marchand (played by Hathaway) who takes her daughter Izzy to Coachella to see her fave boyband.

(Already this feels like fiction because the only place our mum ever took us was to the dentist.)

And while you might think it’s her daughter Izzy who falls in love with a boyband member it’s actually Solene who has a chance encounter with band member Hayes Campbell (played by Galitzine) and falls in love.

Is it based on a true story?

Here’s where it gets interesting. It’s based on the book of the same name by Robinne Lee.

And the book is rumoured to have been about the one and only Harry Styles from One Direction.

In a 2017 Robinne said in an interview with Deborah Kalb that she came up with the two main characters in her book from a band she saw on YouTube.

“A few years ago, my husband was away on business and I was up late surfing music videos on YouTube when I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise,” she said.

“I spent a good hour or so Googling and trying to figure out who this kid was and in doing so I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted.

“When my husband returned a couple of days later, I joked with him that I’d found the perfect guy and I was leaving him and our two kids, “oh, and by the way, he’s half my age.” My husband laughed, and then a moment later said, “You know, that would make a great book.”

Now while she never confirms this is about Harry Styles or One Direction, fans of the singer are convinced it’s about him.

However, there is a chance this could coincidentally be about another guy in another band.

What have Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine said about the film?

The two main actors in the film have denied that this is about Harry.

“No,” Anne said to E! News.

“Everyone needs to chill. Sorry, I probably shouldn’t be that reactive about it. I just think no.”

Nicholas also doesn’t think the movie is about Harry Styles but referenced another boyband.

“We have tried to distance ourselves from that and I think Hayes is such a wonderful character in of himself,” he said.

“There were so many amazing references, we used BTS for a lot of the choreography, which was really great.”

Whatever the case may be, we can’t wait to watch this film when it’s out on Prime Video on 2 May 2024.
