In news we didn’t think we’d be writing so soon, Liam Payne’s One Direction bandmates have paid tribute to the singer after his death on 16 October 2024.

The other four members of One Direction, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Harry Styles, have all released a joint statement celebrating their late bandmate.

The joint statement was made via the One Direction Instagram.

Some members have also released personal tributes to Liam.

Zayn who left the band in 2015 took to his Instagram to post a personal message. He remembered Liam as the friend who looked after him when he was a homesick, 17-year-old.

“I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly,” he wrote.

His bandmate Louis also released a similar statement on Instagram.

“And for the record, Liam was in my opinion the most vital part of One Direction,” he said in part of his written statement.

“His experience from a young age, his perfect pitch, his stage presence, his gift for writing.”

“The list goes on. Thank you for shaping us Liam.”

Harry Styles, the youngest member of One Direction, wrote on Instagram that it was Liam’s “greatest joy…making other people happy”.

“Liam lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve, he had an energy for life that was infectious,” said part of his statement.

“He was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving.

“The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life.”

The last to post a personal tribute was Niall who saw him recently when Liam came to visit Niall at one of his shows in Argentina.

The Irish member said in part of his own Instagram statement, "I feel so fortunate that I got to see him recently. I sadly didn't know that after saying goodbye and hugging him that evening, I would be saying goodbye forever. It's heartbreaking."
