How to Watch the Michael Jordan Doc "The Last Dance" in Australia

It’s 10 hours long. That’s not long enough.

Boom-shaka-laka: ESPN has decided to drop their long-in-the-works documentary series about Michael Jordan, titled The Last Dance, earlier than initially planned.

(Because, you know, we all have a lot of extra time at home on our hands these days…)

Originally set to run in June, the 10-hour series will now premiere in the U.S. on ESPN on 19 April, and will debut on Netflix in Australia (and New Zealand!) on 20 April.

And yes, you read that right: 10 hours. The Last Dance even outdoes the length of ESPN's Oscar-winning 30 for 30 epic O.J.: Made in America, which was a comparatively brisk 467 minutes. But hell, if that's how long they need to tell the MJ story, that's how long we're gonna give them.

Here’s what you need to know to watch The Last Dance in Australia.

The 10-part series will roll-out in two-hour instalments over the following dates, so set your calendar reminders:

  • Monday 20 April, 6:01pm AEDT: Episodes 1 and 2
  • Monday 27 April, 6:01pm AEDT: Episodes 3 and 4
  • Monday 4 May, 6:01pm AEDT: Episodes 5 and 6
  • Monday 11 May, 6:01pm AEDT: Episodes 7 and 8
  • Monday 18 May, 6:01pm AEDT: Episodes 9 and 10

The series will center on one key season from Jordan’s illustrious NBA career while revisiting his past. As the synopsis goes: "In the fall of 1997, Michael Jordan, Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf and head coach Phil Jackson agreed to let an NBA Entertainment film crew follow the team all season long. The result would be a remarkable portrait of an iconic player and a celebrated team—a portrait only now being revealed, more than two decades later, in The Last Dance."

"As the series weaves its way through the tumultuous 1997 – 98 season, viewers will be transported back to how it all began—from Jordan’s childhood roots, the Bulls’ dire circumstances before Jordan’s arrival and how the team was built after drafting Jordan in 1984, to the struggles that eventually led to the team’s first NBA championship. As the series takes the audience through the Bulls’ first five championships, viewers will experience the off-court challenges, struggles and triumphs that were a part of the culture-shifting phenomenon created by Jordan and the Bulls."

You better believe we’re hyped. And so is LeBron James, in case you were wondering.

And if you need something to tide you over in the meantime, or between episodes, Space Jam is available to buy or rent on iTunes, YouTube, Google Play and Microsoft Store.
