How to Watch "The Comey Rule" in Australia

Oh, the drama.

As we're all well aware, the 2020 United States presidential election is just around the corner. In fact, it's scheduled to take place on Tuesday 3 November, so prepare for your newsfeed to become inundated with updates about it.

Except, here's the thing: we're still not entirely over the 2016 election. You know, the one where Donald Trump became President.

Well, it looks like you're going to be able to relive some of the chaos through the new event series, The Comey Rule.

Starring Emmy winners Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) and Brendan Gleeson (Mr. Mercedes), the series is an immersive, behind-the-headlines account of the historically turbulent events surrounding the 2016 U.S. Presidential election and its aftermath, which divided a nation.

It follows the story of two powerful figures, Comey (Daniels) and Trump (Gleeson), whose exceptionally different personalities, ethics and loyalties put them on a collision course.

Where can I watch it? 

The Comey Rule consists of two episodes totalling four hours. Australian viewers will be able to watch the event series on Stan, with the first episode landing at 3pm AEST on Sunday 27 September, and the second on Monday 28 September. 

It'll premiere in the U.S. on the same date on SHOWTIME, so Aussie viewers don't have to worry too much about coming across any major spoilers.

What happened between Comey and Trump? 

Trump controversially fired Comey from his position as director of the FBI after he was criticised for his handling of the FBI's investigation of the Hillary Clinton email controversy, and in 2017 for the FBI's investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election. 

According to reports, Comey only learnt of his dismissal via TV news reports, which is... very ouch.

Initially, it was thought Comey being fired was due to a recommendation by the U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his deputy Rod Rosenstein. However, it was later revealed that Trump had actually requested Sessions and Rosenstein detail in writing a case against Comey.

The Comey Rule is based on the No.1 New York Times bestselling book A Higher Loyalty by Comey, and more than a year of additional interviews with a number of key people.

It was adapted for the screen and helmed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Billy Ray (Captain Phillips). 

The event series also stars Holly Hunter (The Piano), Michael Kelly (Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty) and Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul).
