How to Watch "Rick and Morty" Season 5 in Australia

The chaotic trailer has arrived.

Ah geez, I don’t think anyone expected a Rick and Morty Season 5 trailer to drop this week, but that’s the waaaaay the news goes.

Yeah, we're going to drop Rick and Morty quotes all throughout this article, deal with it.

With the arrival of the new trailer, we’re pumped to see what kind of sci-fi adventures the reckless but brilliant Rick Sanchez and his hopeless but loveable grandson Morty Smith get into.

Let’s look at all the deets we know so far and how you can watch Season 5 in Australia.

When is Season 5 of Rick and Morty dropping?

In the past, the series was notorious for its wildly unpredictable release schedule, with fans having to wait over two years between Seasons 3 and 4.

The good news is that showrunner, Dan Harmon, seems to have overcome his self-confessed laziness with the first episode scheduled to drop on 20 June in the United States.

Now for some reason, there has always been an ungodly delay between the American release and the Australian release of Rick and Morty, with the early seasons of the show having a gap of at least a couple of months between the US and Australian air date.

While it could potentially land on 21 June for Aussie viewers, it hasn’t been officially confirmed so we’ll keep you updated.

How can I watch Rick and Morty Season 5 in Australia?

Okay, this is where things will get a little tRicky (see what we did there?).

Rick and Morty is produced by Adult Swim and Season 5 is set to drop on their website on 20 June. Unfortunately, that website will geo-block anyone trying to watch the show outside of the US (rude).

Similarly, Netflix no longer has the streaming rights to Rick and Morty in the US. They now belong to HBO Max, which isn't available in Australia.

There is a glimmer of hope though. Aussie streaming service BINGE has the exclusive HBO distribution rights for Australia, so though there hasn’t been any formal announcement, this is our best bet.

We’ve reached out to Netflix and BINGE to confirm if either will be streaming Season 5 down under, so we’ll keep you updated.

Update (22/06/21): Rick and Morty Season 5 will land on Netflix Australia today at around 5pm AEST.

What is Season 5 about?

We have absolutely no idea what’s going on in the trailer, but we love it.

Of course, there are loads more outrageous worlds that appear—a signature of the series—and it looks like we might finally get to see what happened in Atlantis from Episode 7 in Season 3.

The love story between Morty and Jessica looks set to continue, this time with Jessica going on an adventure with him and Rick. Fan favourite Mr. Poopy Butthole returns, and there will be a shootout between two Smith families.

Also, according to Harmon, Morty will be involved in a romantic arc that doesn’t involve Jessica.

“There’s an episode in Season 5 where Morty has a relationship with another female character that’s not Jessica. It’s just a great little story,” said the creator.

If it’s anything like the romantic relationship Morty had in “The Vat of Acid Episode” from last season, we’re not ready for more heartbreak.

Also, Jerry will be there messing things up like only Jerry knows how.

Finally, shout-out to The White Stripes. Their song “Blue Orchid” is the backing track for the new trailer, and it’s lit.

Will there be more of Pickle Rick?

We hope so.

So, there you have it, all the information you need to know how and when you can watch Rick and Morty Season 5.

To get prepped for the new season, you can watch all previous episodes on Netflix. I know we will be.
