How to Watch "Fleabag" in Australia

This is a love story.
If you were watching the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards and wondering why all this fuss was being made about a strange-sounding show called Fleabag, we’re here to confirm: it's great.

Fleabag is the creation of genius writer, actor and fringe-curler Phoebe Waller-Bridge. In it, she plays an unnamed London woman who regards herself as 'Fleabag' (hey, like the title!). She often breaks the fourth wall to speak directly to the audience, letting us in on her private jokes and dalliances, as an escape from the judgement of her family (played by Sian Clifford, Olivia Colman, Bill Paterson and Brett Gelman).
Of course, who she's really speaking to emerges over the course of the series, giving Waller-Bridge's sardonic sense of humour a bittersweet twist.
After originating it as a one-woman show for the Edinburgh Fringe festival, Waller-Bridge adapted Fleabag for BBC Three in the United Kingdom back in 2016. It returned earlier this year for a second season, earning even more acclaim thanks to its plot involving Fleabag’s romantic obsession with a "hot priest" played by Andrew Scott. It’s for this season that the show won Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Comedy Actress (all going to Waller-Bridge) and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.

There’s no question as to whether or not Fleabag deserved the accolades—it does—but only whether it should have competed as a Drama rather than Comedy, given how heartbreaking the second season is, and how often the show deals with grief, addiction and other heady themes.
But then, if it did, it would have had to fight with Waller-Bridge’s other televisual creation, Killing Eve, and you wouldn’t want her to battle that show’s Jodie Comer for the top prize now, would you?

Alright already, I’m sold, how do I watch it in Australia?
The same way you watch it almost everywhere else in the world (unless you’re in Britain and have access to the BBC)!
Season 1 and 2 of Fleabag can be streamed via Amazon Prime Video. You can also buy the first season in the Google, Apple and Microsoft stores.
There are only six episodes in each season, so you better savour them, because Waller-Bridge says she's not interested in making a Season 3 (until, maybe, after she turns 50).
If you want more from her, you’ll just have to make do with Killing Eve, the new Bond movie she’s co-writing, and whatever other magical things she conjures up in the next few years.
