How to Watch "Betty" in Australia

A show about female skateboarders? Yes, please.

Let's face it: you have probably watched way more shows than you ordinarily would in 2020, considering the coronavirus pandemic forced us to stay home a lot.

Well, we've got another series for you to add to your list. In fact, we're about 100 per cent certain it'll become your new TV obsession.

It's called Betty, and it follows a diverse group of young women navigating their lives through the male-dominated world of skateboarding in New York City.

The six-part series is based on director Crystal Moselle's critically acclaimed 2018 feature Skate Kitchen, which followed Camille (Rachelle Vinberg), a teenage girl who befriends a group of female skateboarders in NYC.

Basically, Betty is a spin-off of Moselle's feature film, and a few members of the cast reprise their characters from Skate Kitchen. The show also tackles themes of friendship, self-knowledge, sexuality and equality.

Super intrigued? We don't blame you. Fortunately, you won't have to wait too long to watch the show because it's landing on Binge on Friday 6 November. (Affiliate disclosure: Student Edge may earn a commission if you click that link and buy a product from our partner's page.)

Betty has already aired on HBO in the United States, so stay away from social media to avoid spoilers (unless you're into that kind of thing).

The cast includes Nina Moran, Rachelle Vinberg, Ajani Russell, Moonbear, Dede Lovelace, Caleb Eberhardt, Reza Nader and Brenn Lorenzo.

As of writing this article, Betty is rated 96 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer, which is pretty damn excellent.

If you require further convincing, some viewers have drawn a connection between the series and Taylor Swift's song "betty" from her folklore album.

Okay, and if that doesn't convince you, just check out the trailer.
