How to Use the Viral AI Generator “DALL-E Mini” for Your Next School or Uni Project

Jazz up your PowerPoint presentations or generate ‘historical’ photos...

Okay, okay. You’ve probably seen the haunting, nightmare-fuelled AI-generated images spawning all across the internet.

James Charles as a Russian Bolshevik, Snooki speaking at the United Nations conference and Freddie Mercury eating ramen from a clothes dryer… we’ve seen it all.

But if you dig a little deeper, people are asking how this serves any kind of purpose. And in particular, we’re thinking about how it can benefit students.

There’s a lot to be said in the argument against AI—it could abolish human creativity and automate a lot of our processes, rendering us redundant.

On the other hand… there’s a lot of fun to be had, and unique ways you can incorporate this into your next assignment. Let’s have a ponder.

Get inspiration for your visual arts, design, media or fashion class.

Did you know that the AI generator in question, DALL-E, is a ‘portmanteau’ (or a joining of) the words “Dalí”, as in the artist Salvador Dalí, and “WALL-E”?

The AI generator literally takes inspiration from artwork. So, if you’re tasked to draw something weird and wacky for art class, popping a prompt into the generator might give you the inspiration you need.

This goes for anything. Want a cool setting for a music video in media class? Want to design some new clothes? Here’s one we prepared earlier.

Jazz up your PowerPoint presentations.

Who doesn’t love an entertaining PowerPoint presentation to get your classmates giggling and your teacher smirking with amusement?

There’s no harm in popping in some memes to a serious presentation if it makes things more engaging. Using one of these photos might spice up your political science presentation on Donald Trump for example…

Generate ‘historical’ photos for your history project.

Photos didn’t capture everything back in the day, so why not create your own representations?

How about an ancient family cooking while Mount Vesuvius erupted?

Or Marie Antoinette eating cake before being executed via guillotine?

Use for light study relief.

We admit that the AI generator may not be best suited for every kind of school project. But what we can confirm is that it causes some very intense belly laughs (like when we generated this gem in the Student Edge office).

Have some scholarly fun with the generator and check out more of our articles on artificial intelligence here (because it’s all pretty gnarly).
