A Décor Trend Called ‘Barkitecture’ is on the Rise for Pet Lovers

Because of course my cat needs its own condo🐾💅

Pinterest has predicted the major interior design and fashion trends for 2022 and there’s one in particular that’s got us howling.

‘Barkitecture’, put simply, is interior design based around your pet. Think dog showers, feeding stations, cat condos and climbing walls, luxury guinea pig hutches and rabbit runs.

According to Domain, more than two-thirds of Australian households now own a pet. And not only that, but last year the pandemic led us to spend 35% more time with our animal companions, according to ABS data. It’s no wonder some interesting search trends have started to emerge…

These include “catify your home” growing 4x higher in searches and “luxury dog room” growing by a whopping 115x.

Brazil seems to be at the forefront of Barkitecture, leading the way with “pink luxury dog room” and “cat pillow” searches on the rise.

If you’re not as extra as installing an actual ceiling playground for your cats, there are some more affordable and realistic options.

Check out this Pet Bed House from Kmart that’ll set you back only $9.

There’s also this Pet Bed Speed Boat for $7 if you wanna get nautical.

Over at Target there’s some more ✨luxury ✨options, like this $25 Patch & Socks Pacha Cat Cave.

And you can check out the weird and the wonderful on the Pinterest board here.

Are pet palaces the best thing to happen in 2022 or has the world gone barking mad?
