Been invited to a last-minute Halloween party or too busy to even think about it?

We get you—it’s stressful finding a costume that’s not too basic, not too niche, and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

So, we’ve compiled a definitive list of Halloween looks you can pull together in a hurry. Plus, they’re all relevant to the year behind us—from TV shows to fashion trends of 2022.

Solo costume: Eddie Munson from Stranger Things.

Within a couple of episodes in the latest season of Stranger Things, Eddie Munson cemented himself as an instantly classic TV character.

Even people who never watched the show will be able to recognise the curly haired, 80’s-styled high school student played by Joseph Quinn.

Everyone has a denim jacket, right? And if you want to go the extra mile, chuck on a leather jacket underneath it.

You can create your own “Hellfire Club” tee by literally using a permanent marker on an old shirt you’re willing to forgo. Then you just need to add some ripped skinny jeans and white sneakers.

Accessorise with some silver rings and chains if you have ‘em. And as for the hair—you can pick up a cheap wig, tease your own natural locks or rock your own style and let the outfit carry the character for you.

Solo costume: Miles Teller in Top Gun.

People everywhere fawned over Miles Teller when he played Rooster in Top Gun: Maverick.

Lucky for you, it’s super easy to put together the look. We’re drawing from the iconic scene where Rooster is playing the piano in the pub.

All you need is a Hawaiian print shirt, unbuttoned over a white singlet. Pop on some aviators or similar sunnies, and perhaps you can even pick up a fake mo’ or apply a generous amount of fake tan.

Solo costume: Wednesday Addams.

TV’s favourite emo, gothic and macabre madam is heading back to the silver screen in Netflix’s new rendition of The Addams Family.

Wednesday comes out on 23 November, but it’s a timeless costume that never fails.

You can either go all out and paint your face ghastly white, part your hair down the middle and get the whole preppy collared dress and stockings vibe going.

Or, give it a modern twist and slip on your docs, swap out the stockings for knee-high socks, and get trendy with it.

Solo costume: Olivia Rodrigo.

Although Sour came out in 2021, the bangers have endured.

Olivia’s got several iconic outfits, but perhaps most recognisable is her album cover look.

Slip on a cute singlet top, plaid skirt, and then—we’re not joking—get a cheap kids’ sticker pack to cover your face in.

You can use makeup glue to adhere them to your face, or just use the stickers for your Instagram snaps.

Duo/couple costume: Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic reignited interest in the famed pair, who are the spitting image of 70’s style.

The main thing with this costume is the hair. Priscilla, you’re gonna have to tease up the front and back of your crown. And Elvis, it’s all about the gel and sideburns.

You can get away with any kind of flared 70’s outfit, as long as it’s dramatic.

Duo/couple costume: Coraline and Wybie from Coraline.

Another classic, but criminally underrated.

Got a yellow raincoat and some gumboots? You’re set. Wybie just needs to adorn a black trenchcoat and some skeleton gloves, and you’ve got the look.

If you’re really going for it, why not fashion some glasses out of large buttons?

Friend group: the cast of the original Jurassic Park.

Jurassic World Dominion was released this year, but let’s take it back to the OG’s.

A denim shirt, chinos, a red bandanna, and a cowboy hat – the perfect Dr Alan Grant.

Laura Dern’s iconic paleobotanist Ellie Satler can be captured easily with a blue tee, a red shirt tied in a knot, shorts, and boots.
