How to Get Bonus VC in "NBA 2K19"

NBA 2K19 drops on 11 September 2018, but you can start loading up on bonus Virtual Currency (aka VC) right now.

"What’s VC and why do I need it?" Great question, nameless reader. But, have you never played 2K before? What a dark, unenviable life you must lead.

Virtual Currency allows you to buy players—and packs of cards—for NBA 2K’s fantasy league, MyTEAM. Though you can earn VC by just playing the game, there are daily challenges in MyTEAM mode that allow you to collect more VC than you’ll know what to do with.

Of course, the more VC you have, the more stacked you can make your personal team. Want to finally create the 'banana boat' team with LeBron James, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony? Do it in MyTEAM. Want to create an all-star assortment to challenge the Golden State Warriors' death lineup? Do it in MyTEAM. Want to rebuild the Utah Jazz with everyone except Grayson Allen? Do it in MyTEAM.

Here are a few ways you can load-up on VC:

1. Preorder the game.

If you’re planning on snapping up a copy of 2K19 in September, you may as well pre-order now and get the game four days earlier than everyone else (you can collect your preorder on 7 September). When you preorder the standard edition with ol’ m8 Ben Simmons on the cover, you’ll get 5,000 VC, 10 weekly MyTEAM packs and a guaranteed Giannis Antetokounmpo MyTEAM card. You can preorder here.

2. Go for the 20th Anniversary Edition.

Though it’ll cost you $149, the 20th Anniversary Edition of NBA 2K19 includes brand-new Laker LeBron on the cover, and automatically comes with 100,000 VC, 50,000 MyTEAM points, 20 weekly MyTEAM League Packs, 10 weekly MyTEAM Heat Check Packs, guaranteed LeBron and Giannis sapphire MyTEAM Cards, five LeBron-themed murals for MyCOURT, and something they’re calling the "King’s Collection", which is Nike LeBron apparel (including 25 pairs of footwear) for your virtual players. 3. Play the My NBA 2K19 app every day.

Okay, so, as of this writing, the My NBA 2K19 app is not yet available. However, if it’s anything like the 2K17 and 2K18 app before it, the app will likely feature some additional opportunities to accumulate VC through daily rewards and one-on-one games. It's also an easy way to earn currency when you’re not near your console.

Update (12/09): The My NBA 2K19 app has been released, and yes, it offers heaps of opportunities to earn VC. Get it for iOS here. And no, we didn't forget Android users.

It’s important to note that if 2K19 follows the footsteps of previous instalments, your current collection of VC on NBA 2K18 (or any earlier version of the game) probably won’t transfer over. Also, if you end up earning VC in 2K19 on one console, you likely won’t be able to transfer them to any other different console version of the same game. And finally, don’t expect your hard work on the 2K18 app to count for 2K19 either. Whichever way you slice it, you'll be starting from scratch. But hey, you don’t care. You love playing!
