Love sports, athletics and more? ⚽
As part of our Job Hunt series, we’re reaching out to some of your fave companies to find out what you need to do, to get a casual job there.
If you live, breath and dream of sports or athletics a casual job at rebel sport may be just the gig for you.
Lucky for you, we sat down with rebel team member Riley to ask him about how students can apply for a casual job at rebel.
(Plus he even gave us some insight on when rebel might be hiring 👀)
What are the top things you look for when hiring casuals?
If you are itching to put forward a resume or application to work at rebel there are a few things you should highlight.
Riley told Student Edge one of the things they look for is a “real, genuine passion for helping our customers achieve their sporting goals.”
“We really like our team to want to interact with our customers, and always prioritise them because they genuinely play such a big role in our community,” he said.
“We also really look for team [members] that [are] happy and comfortable working individually, but also as a part of the team, and that's how we work to achieve our goals.
“When we draw on our team, take on their skills and their uniqueness, it brings it all together.”
Have you ever seen any resumes/applications which have really stood out to you?
Resumes can be tough but if you want a job at rebel there’s a few things you can do to make yours stand out.
Riley told us he recently came across a resume where the applicant had highlighted their interest in sport and their past experience in an internship.
“They did everything from hockey through to lacrosse through to water polo, and had passions in running and going to the gym, so they had a really good understanding of team sports,” he said.
“But they had also done an internship while at university that was a work from home internship.
“So they also learned a lot about knowing how to pace their workload, and that combination of that individual strength and working on your own, but also knowing how to play a role in a team really stood out to me.”
And this applicant is now working at a rebel store!
Riley’s biggest tip when it comes to applying to work at rebel is if you have a passion or interest in sport and athletics, definitely put it down on your resume.
What else should I put down on my resume?
Any experience is good experience.
Even if you haven’t had a customer facing role, Riley said “as long as you can prove and show on your resume that you’ve made an impact where you worked and enjoyed it…that’s what we’re looking for in our team here at rebel.”
For example, maybe you’ve worked in a café or helped out a local business, these are all things worth noting down on your resume.
Are rebel hiring casuals anytime soon? 👀
Riley gave Student Edge a little sneaky insider tip that rebel will be hiring soon for their Christmas period.
“We hire hundreds if not thousands of team members across the country for front and back of house roles,” he told Student Edge.
“So if you want to chip in and get on the team…jump online and check out our careers page and we’ll see you on the field.”
