Where to Apply for a Casual Job in Australia

 Job Tips
Looking for your next gig? Look no further 💯

Working while you study is almost right of passage as a young person in Australia.

And we have to admit the feeling when you receive your first paycheck is so sweet. So, if you’re looking for a job, look no further.

We asked 1000 of our Gen Z members what companies they would be most enthusiastic about working at. Funnily enough, our members wanted to work at places where they had been as customers and had a good experience.

Based off our Top 100 Gen Z Employers report, these are some of the companies where you could apply for a casual job in Australia.

(And if you're looking for our jobs board, head here 😉)

Apple.

As a staff member at an Apple store, you’ll want to love their products and know how they work. But also be prepared to get your communication skills in order because this is all about helping others and providing a great customer experience. As it’s a client facing role, you’ll want to have strong people skills and be approachable, empathetic and a good listener!

Some of the members we surveyed said they wanted to work here because of their “attractive compensation and employee benefits” but some also “always [had] positive experiences with the staff when [they] go there”.

Woolworths.

There are heaps of different casual jobs you could apply for when it comes to the Fresh Food people, and they serve different areas of Woolies stores. Think personal shoppers, night fill, fresh service, customer service, fruit and vege, and grocery team members. If you want to work at Woolies, they are looking for staff members with “genuine care, a flexible approach” and “passion”.

The students we surveyed said they wanted to work at Woolies because it “seems like a fun environment” with “lots of young workers”. And some were also looking forward to their future and said a job at Woolworths “would provide important experience for [their] career.”

JB HI-FI.

If you have a passion for home entertainment, music, movies and all things tech, working as a retail team member for JB HI-FI could be the perfect job for you. This job is all about helping in different areas across the JB HI-FI store and providing customer service. You might also get to use your creative skills to help merchandise products and assist with processing stock into stores.

Officeworks.

If you’ve ever been to Officeworks, you’ll know their stores are huge! So as a casual customer service specialist you might be working across their replenishment, technology and customer service departments. To work as a casual team member, you’ll thrive on fast-paced environments and enjoy working with a team and customers too.

Kmart.

We fear working here means you will probably be wanting to buy something every shift…but it could be worth it! Working at Kmart means you’ll be helping and advising customers when needed, restocking shelves, manning the changerooms, counting products for stocktake and cleaning and tidying too. Keen to work here? They want team members who work well with others, have positive attitudes and take initiative.

Movie World.

This might not be your average place to work but hear us out, how fun would it be to work at a fun attraction like Movie World? Well, a whole bunch of you thought so too because some of you we surveyed in our Top 100 Employers report told us you wanted to work here because of how fun it seems. One person surveyed said, “I have been there many times in my childhood and it was so freaking fun!”

There are loads of different roles you could take on at Movie World too. These could be things such as retail assistants, lifeguards, venue attendants and more.

HOYTS.

If you are the type of person who always knows about the latest movie releases, and is in the know about entertainment news before everyone else does, this is the perfect job for you. Crew members at HOYTS will spend their shifts greeting and seating guests, processing movie tickets, serving food and beverages and working with the wider team.

And a huge part of why students surveyed in our Top 100 Employers report wanted to work at HOYTS was because of how much they loved going there as a customer. And one respondent even said “I would love the employee discount”.

(And if you’re itching to see a movie grab a $12.50 HOYTS GA Mon-Thurs movie ticket here 😉)

Keep an eye out as we speak to some of your favourite brands about how to get a job with them and how you can elevate your resume!
