Aussies Spent HOW Much on Streaming and Gaming Last Year?

That's a whole lotta cash money.

New data has revealed just how much Aussies are spending on streaming and gaming each year and let's just say, you could buy a lot of oat milk lattes with those dollars.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) published their latest Australian Media and Entertainment Outlook this week and we are certainly not holding back on treatin' ourselves to TV, music and video games.

The report found Aussies spent more than $8 billion collectively on streaming and gaming in 2021.

When you break it down, that's about $4.4 billion on streaming services, $3.6 billion on video games, $1.1 billion on news media, $1.2 billion on music and $353 million on magazines.

We sure are consuming a lot of content.

More than three quarters of households paid for at least one streaming service last year, which is expected to increase to 80 per cent by the end of 2022.

On average, each household actually subscribes to 2.6 television streaming services and spends about $40 per month ensuring they can keep up with the latest Bridgerton or Stranger Things episodes.

PwC suggested it was because extended lockdowns in half the country last year saw more people resorting to the couch.

But let's be real, we've all been allowed outside to socialise for a while now and we still aren't giving up our TV time.

So, what platforms are we all using?

Well, Netflix was Australia's favourite last year, followed by Foxtel and their portfolio (think BINGE and Kayo Sports), with Stan, Amazon Prime and Disney+ rounding out the top five.

The report comes just days after Netflix announced a partnership with Microsoft to offer cheaper plans if you can put up with ads. That's due to a tough start to 2022 for the company who were plagued by a drop in new subscriptions.

Disney+ is also tipped to be introducing a new lower priced, ad-supported subscription plan.

However you do it, let the bingeing continue!
