How a 20-Yr-Old Brisbane Student's Men At Work Cover Ended Up the Theme for Stan's "Wolf Creek"

"How did they even find the video? It must have been on the last page of YouTube."

Sabrina Schultz, 20 years old, had seven subscribers and about 100 views on her cover of "Land Down Under" on YouTube when a music licensing company emailed her to buy the song.

"Obviously, I didn't think it was real because I'm like this nobody on YouTube," Sabrina tells Student Edge. "Once I looked into it more, I figured out it was all legit."

They explained to her that they loved the song, which was uploaded last year, and wanted to use it as the theme song for Stan's upcoming second season of Wolf Creek. They didn't even want to re-record it.

"I was expecting for sure that they'll need to re-record this because it's not professional quality," Sabrina confesses. "It was done in around 10 minutes."

So, what drove Sabrina to cover the Aussie pub classic in the first place?

"It's a pretty random song choice, I know," Sabrina laughs. She heard a cover on The Voice and got the idea to slow it down and put it into her own style. While she admits it wasn't intentional, the outcome is haunting. Men At Work's original song is a larrikin anthem. But now, you can see John Jarratt's frightening outback serial killer in action as Sabrina sings the lyrics:

Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder
You better run, you better take cover

It breathes new meaning into the song.

Sabrina says recording covers in her bedroom gives her a feeling of confidence that's harder to achieve in a live setting. 

"I used to be really nervous and shy, and I still am; that's why I do the whole video thing," Sabrina says. "But, with each [live] performance, you get more confident."

Sabrina says she just finished university, so she has a lot more free time on her hands to cover more songs now that the show's given her more exposure. 

"I'm not really planning to be a musician, but if it happens, that would be amazing," Sabrina explains. "I'm just taking it day-by-day."
