Voting in the Triple J’s Hottest 100 Closes Soon – Who Are The Top Contenders?

Who’s got your vote?
It’s that time of year again when all our insta stories are filled with people’s top 10 songs of 2022.
Why? Well it’s Triple J’s Hottest 100 again, and people are getting prepped for a big countdown.
After The Wiggles took out the countdown last year with their rendition of Tame Impala’s “Elephant”, we’ve had a massive year of tunes, so its set to be an even tighter top ten this year.
A few days ago, the counters at Triple J announced there were less than 125 votes between the current top two tracks.

What those two tracks are, we’ll just have to wait and see – but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate.
Voting closes on Monday 23 January, so time is running out to get those votes in.

It’s around this time every year that music fans across the country head to 100 Warm Tunas for their official predictions, based on fan votes and some pretty accurate estimates.
In last year’s Hottest 100, eight of 100 Warm Tunas’ predicted top ten reached the top ten on the day, and they accurately predicted the Wiggles’ triumph.
But enough about last year – who’s taking the cake for 2022?
The leader this year for Warm Tunas, with 19% of the vote is “in the wake of your leave” by Gang of Youths.
This huge track - which released ahead of their third album Angel in Realtime - is a reflection on how singer Dave Le’aupepe “became dependent on grief for solace and inspiration” and is a classic GOY track.
But the Gang of Youths banger isn’t everyone’s top seeded choice.
Ball Park Music’s “Stars in My Eyes” and Flume’s “Say Nothing [Ft. MAY-A] are also heavy favourites to take out the top spot.
Western Australian indie icons Spacey Jane are set to have a big year yet again with Warm Tunas predicting both “Hardlight” and “Sitting Up” to place in the top 10, and three more songs set to place between 100 and 11.
That would beat last year’s countdown when Spacey Jane charted three times on the list.
100 Warm Tunas has predicted Spacey Jane to be the most popular artist this year, with more predicted charting tracks than any other outfit.
Other bands like Gang of Youths, Ball Park Music and Lime Cordiale are set to have a big day, after they’ve been predicted to have three tracks chart.
Other tracks predicted to go top ten include “Camp Dog” from King Stingray and “Girl Sports” by “Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers”.
There’s some serious nostalgia vibes to come in this year’s Hottest 100 with bands like Blink-182, Paramore and Gorillaz all predicted to poll high with their new music from 2022.

What’s gonna be interesting about this year’s countdown is how social media like TikTok have affected people’s tastes.
Viral songs like Beyonce’s “Cuff It” and tracks from up-and-coming producer Fred Again.. are big features on the predicted list.
Meanwhile, Eliza Rose & Interplanetary Criminal’s track “B.O.T.A. (Baddest Of Them All) is predicted to go as high as the top five after having a massive run on TikTok.
Voting for the Hottest 100 finishes up Monday 23 January, and the countdown itself takes place on Saturday 28 January, with the Hottest 200 taking place the day before.
