Hopper From "Stranger Things" Discusses Your S3 Fan Theories

Sheriff Hopper dispels your precious Stranger Things' theories one-by-one.
The next season of Stranger Things might still be a while away but that hasn't stopped fans from theorising about what the hell is going on.
At the end of Season Two, we discussed a few of the popular (and most ridiculous) theories doing the rounds on the murky depths of Reddit, but our favourite dad, Sheriff Hopper, has decided to take a few on himself.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, David Harbour (a.k.a. Sheriff Hopper) gave spoiler-free, totally speculative responses to some of them, so we've selected just a few to give you a taste of what might be to come.
"The Upside-Down is actually the future."

Harbour admits that he loves this theory and it could be true but it's "crazy and insane."
The Redditor, ahhuati, explains that Will is "impregnated" by an alien when he's in the Upside-Down (a.k.a. the future) and when he returns to present-day Indiana (which is in the '80s) he gives birth to this creature who grows up to be the Demogorgon.
"The one thing that you have hit on is that the Upside-Down is something specific," Harbour explained.
"It may be the future, it may be something else [but] it exists as a reflection of Hawkins."
"Hopper's daughter is still alive!"

This theory suggests that Sara, Hopper's daughter, never died but was instead kidnapped by Eleven's captors and Hopper was lead to believe she'd died after Kali used her power of illusion on him. Yes, it's a complex concept.
Harbour, however, doesn't believe it's likely to work.
"I do not think this is true," Harbour admitted. "The Upside-Down brings with it a lot of elements which we'll start to see... about what [the world] can do, but I don't think in the physical world she's still alive."
"The demogorgon is a manifestation of Eleven's trauma."

This one suggests that Eleven created the monster due to all the trauma she faced when she was experimented on. In the first season after she saves Mike from jumping off the cliff, she apologises and tells him that she's 'the monster'.
"I actually believe in this theory," Harbour confessed.
"And I pretty much know it's not true.
"I talked to the Duffers [show's creators] about [this theory] and they said 'No.'"
