Hobart Radio Host Suspended For Making A Joke About Dreamworld Tragedy On A Live Show

A radio presenter has been suspended after making an inappropriate comment about the Dreamworld tragedy on air.

According to a Sydney Morning Herald report, Anna Dare - host on Hobart 7HOfm - was responding to a random sound clip aired during a game segment called "secret sound".

Trying to guess what the sound was, she said: "It's not getting stuck in a conveyor belt at a theme park is it? Too soon?"

Her on-air colleagues audibly gasped and then the program went straight to a song, the Australian reported.

Anna, the host in question, is pictured on the left in the following Instagram post.

Grant Cameron, the chief executive of Grant Broadcasters, said the unacceptable comment showed a serious lapse in judgement but that it didn't reflect the values of 7HOfm.

"We sincerely apologise to our listeners, the broader community and everyone affected," he said.

Anna Date has been suspended indefinitely until further notice.

In other news, Dreamworld will officially reopen on Saturday.

Park chairman Neil Balnave said it would be in the best interest of his workers to have the park promptly reopened.

Balnave said the decision was based on advice from psychologists who allegedly said it "was better for people to get back to work and get together with their comrades and just deal with this issue," rather than being, "concerned about their jobs and sitting at home in isolation".

In a statement the park said, "Activities will be limited to smaller rides, animal attractions, and the water park."
