HBO Has Ordered Ten Episodes of the Targaryen "Game of Thrones" Prequel

Prepare for dragons.
It’s been a bit of a stressful day for Game of Thrones fans. Earlier this morning, it was announced that the much-anticipated GoT prequel starring Naomi Watts has been scrapped by HBO. The prequel was set to chronicle the world’s descent from the Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.
However, all hope is not lost.
Back in September, reports emerged that a Targaryen prequel was in the works. Now, HBO have confirmed that it has received a full straight-to-series order. Titled House of the Dragon, the prequel is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

The 10-part series is co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal (Colony), who will also serve as showrunner. Based on Martin’s novel "Fire & Blood", the prequel is likely to track the beginnings and the end of House Targaryen.
GoT director Miguel Sapochnik who helmed episodes such as "Battle of the Bastards", "Hardhome" and "The Long Night" will direct the pilot, along with additional episodes.
In a statement, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said, "The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories. We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George."
It’s been tough to keep up with the GoT prequels, with Martin confirming there were five different successor shows in the works a couple of months ago.
At this stage, we’re not too sure when House of the Dragon will air, but we’ll keep you updated.
