Have Toad and Toadette From Mario Games Been an Item This Whole Time?

Toad from Mario Bros. may have had a secret relationship this whole time.

Mario Kart Wii has been out for a good ten years, but only now has some eagle-eyed Nintendo fans noticed something pretty strange.

Toad, an OG character, and Toadette, who was introduced to the Nintendo world 15 years ago, were holding hands.

Mamma mia!

Koichi Hayashida, a video game developer and programmer at Nintendo, explained that there hasn't really been much thought behind the toads' genders or their relationship, so the idea of them being more than "shroomates" is just a theory.

You truly do learn something new every day.
