Taking the ‘theft’ in "Grand Theft Auto" to another level.

An anonymous hacker has leaked confidential test gameplay of the highly anticipated sixth instalment in the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series.

It’s now being called “the biggest leak in video game history and a nightmare for Rockstar Games”, by gaming journalist Jason Schreier.

Grand Theft Auto, which is developed by Rockstar Games, is one of the biggest game series of all time. GTA V, which was released in 2013, has generated $11.4 billion in revenue since 2013.

Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the most anticipated games of all time, so this leak is huuge news in the gaming community.

The leak featured 90 video clips which showed animation tests, map layouts and even gameplay demos.

The biggest revelation is the confirmation of rumours that the game would feature it’s first ever female playable character.

The hacker, known only as “teapotuberhacker” has said they managed to get the data by hacking into internal messages between Rockstar employees on the messaging app Slack.

Rockstar confirmed the hack was legitimate on Monday, and said they were “extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way.”

Parts of the source code were also leaked, some of which has given a sneak peek to the soundtrack.

Featured artists are set to include Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Lady Gaga and more.

Unfortunately, the leak could mean another delay for the game.

If more of the game’s source code is revealed by the hacker, Rockstar could be forced to completely rebuild the game’s structure.

Jason Schreier has also indicated the security breach might also mean developers could be limited from working at home.

GTA VI isn’t set to be released until at least 2024, 11 years after the release of the fifth instalment.
