The Golden Globes: “Shōgun”, “Baby Reindeer” and More Win in 2025

We’ve had that one Challengers song stuck in our head for a year tbh

The content team at Student Edge returned to the office officially today and what better way to celebrate than to have the Golden Globes 2025 kick off on the same day.

After a wholesome festive and new year break, the stars from some of 2024’s best TV shows and movies have emerged from the depths of Hollywood to attend the first awards show of the 2025 season.

Here’s a recap of the 2025 Golden Globes.

Shōgun takes out four awards.

The historical drama on Disney+ follows the collision of an English sailor who ends up shipwrecked in Japan.

The TV show took out a whopping four awards, the most of any TV show in this year’s Golden Globes.

They saw wins for actor Tadanobu Asano for Best Supporting Actor, Hiroyuki Sanada for Best Actor, Anna Sawai for Best Actress and overall won Best Drama Series.

Wicked wins its first award of the season.

We’ve seen the movie (multiple times), the “holding space” memes and we’ve sung all the songs.

So, it comes as little surprise that Wicked won its first award at the Golden Globes, taking home the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award.

And of course it wouldn’t have been a Wicked moment without Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo looking like they might burst into tears.

“That’s why this is for you, the fans out there,” said Director Jon Chu when accepting the award.

“Who came to the movie theatres, to bring your friends and families and stay in the dark and watch.

“We saw your videos, we saw your sing-a-long’s, we saw your makeup, your hair products your bakery items…and it shows us how important making this stuff is.”

We physically cannot wait until Wicked: Part Two.

Netflix’s Baby Reindeer wins two awards.

It feels like ages since Baby Reindeer came out on Netflix.

They won Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or TV Motion Picture and Jessica Gunning won for Best Supporting Female Actor.

Which makes it all the more interesting given Fiona Harvey, the supposed woman the show is based on, has sued creator Richard Gadd for defamation.

A US judge ruled in September 2024, Fiona Harvey could pursue her lawsuit.

Challengers wins Best Original Film Score.

We’re sorry but this score has been stuck our heads for the last year. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who has played this in the shower and pretended I was a really cool, effortless, tennis player. No? Just me?

Moving on: this was Challengers only win for the night but a deserving one considering the soundtrack is still stuck in all our heads.

Zendaya teases an…engagement?

And lastly Zendaya is apparently engaged to Tom Holland as she took to the red carpet sporting a big, fat diamond on her left hand.

It’s got the internet in shambles wondering if she and Spider-Man came back from the New Year break engaged.
