Netflix’s New Series, “Baby Reindeer”, Has Us Feeling Shook

Let’s just say this show puts you through a rollercoaster of emotions 😦

The new Netflix TV series Baby Reindeer has audiences (including us) absolutely speechless.

The series has popped off in popularity and is all over our social media feeds.

 

Is the series really based off a true story?

Richard Gadd, who plays Donny, is also the creator of the show and the series is actually based of his real, true story of having a stalker.

The story begins with an upset Martha who arrives in the bar where Donny works. Noticing she needs a pick me up, he gives her a cup of tea on the house.

After that, she kept returning to the bar and things went south quickly.

Martha calls Donny, “Baby Reindeer” because he reminded her of a reindeer stuffed toy she had when she was young that had “big lips, huge eyes and the cutest wee bum”.

She claimed to be a lawyer but was unemployed after being fired for previous stalking convictions.

Over 5 years, she sends him over 40,000 emails (bit sus 🤨), 350 hours of voicemails and strange gifts like a stuffed reindeer and sleeping pills.

As claimed by Richard, this did really happen as “Martha” stalked “Donny” in all areas of his life like his home, workplace, comedy clubs and even harassed his parents and love interest.

“I certainly egged the situation on before I realised that it was as dangerous as it was” Gadd told the Independent.

The real-life Martha speaks out.

But all is not as it seems.

The real-life woman who the series was based on has spoken out and she’s not too happy about it.

She was named in newspapers without her consent but has now spoken to Aberdeen Live on the record.

She claims it was “all made up and hyperbole”, and Gadd is the one that is “obsessed with her” in her interview with the Record.

Gadd stated in a GQ article that not everything that happened in the series is true and they went to great lengths to disguise who the real Martha was.

She told Daily Mail “he’s using Baby Reindeer to stalk me now,” she said.

“I’m the victim. He’s written a bloody show about me.”
