Golden Globe Losers Ryan Reynolds And Andrew Garfield Consoled Themselves By Pashing On, And Other Highlights

The Golden Globes happened in Los Angeles today, which is about as inconsequential as sentences get.

La La Land broke a GG record, receiving seven prizes from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, including Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical. It's the first film to notch such a massive tally.

But who cares about that when we have this gif of losers Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield consoling themselves with a kiss as La La Land's Ryan Gosling is announced winner of the Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical crown?

Though only Deadpool's Reynolds was competing against Gosling in this category, Drama contender Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge) will potentially meet a similar fate if put opposite Gosling in the Academy Awards' Best Actor field. (Though, all of them will probably lose to Manchester by the Sea's Casey Affleck, who won Best Actor in a Drama at this very Globes.)

Basically, expect Gosling and Garfield to share the next consolation smooch at the Oscars.

Elsewhere in the ceremony, Moonlight won Best Motion Picture - Drama, while Atlanta, The Crown and American Crime Story: The People Vs O.J. Simpson were all honoured as the best TV shows of the year.

Also, Kristen Wiig and Steve Carell presented an award, and their three minutes of banter was better than most of 2016's theatrically released features.

The night's most stirring highlight, however, came from Meryl Streep, a nominee for Florence Foster Jenkinks who lost out to La La Land's Emma Stone in the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical category. She nonetheless made her mark with a damning rebuke of President-elect Donald Trump.

With highlights like that, it's almost worth watching the entire fourteen-hour (seeming) telecast.
