The students become the masters at Film School, a one-of-a-kind screening series.

On the second Monday of each month (excluding January 2020), a diverse array of young people will present an exciting new release at Luna Cinemas in Leederville, WA and kick off a post-movie discussion with special guests.

Presented by Student Edge, Film School gives up-and-coming critics a voice... and that includes those in the audience as well! High schoolers* and university/VET students are invited to come along, mix with fellow cinema-lovers and share their own hot takes on the movie of the month. Student Edge members even get discounted tickets: $12 at the door or $13.50 online!

Whether it's high-brow or low-brow, documentary or anime, Scorsese or Marvel, we'll cover it all at Film School.

Members can select the 'Student Edge' option when you follow the link to buy tickets at Luna (you'll just have to show your Student Edge App or card at the box office to book or collect discounted tickets). *Please note Luna Leederville is a fully licensed venue and it is a requirement that under-18s must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult.

The first screening will be Martha: A Picture Story on Monday 9 December, a thrilling documentary from Aussie filmmaker Selina Miles about trailblazing American photojournalist Martha Cooper, who captured the hip hop scene and graffiti culture of 1970s New York.

This event will be hosted by Student Edge members Teale Reynolds, Intan Badrun and Hannah Terpsis, and they will be joined by local Perth photographer Amaarah Samnakay, who'll answer questions from the audience about the importance of capturing local culture through photography.

Hi, I’m Teale! I’m a recent English and Cultural studies graduate and major film enthusiast. My interest in film developed during my high school media classes and grew even further when I then started working at my local cinema. I am now excited to take my love of film to the next level with Student Edge’s Film School Panel.

My name is Intan Badrun. I’m currently studying Advertising and Film & Video. I love and enjoy partaking in anything to do with creativity. It allows me to express myself and my thoughts in other ways than just verbally. My favourite quote that is usually lingering at the back of my mind is: "Comfort is the Enemy of Progress". In saying that, I try to be the Jane of all trades by exposing myself in unfamiliar and uncomfortable situations, or else, how else will I grow as person, right?

Hey! I'm Hannah and I love all things film! I love horror movies most because I love being scared, but I'll watch almost anything. My interest in film started when I was a kid and has stayed with me right up to uni, where I currently study Screen Production. Overall, I am excited to be able to discuss movies with like-minded people at the upcoming panels.
