‘Gather Round’ for the Top Five Moments of AFL Round 5

Adelaide put on a show.

It’s the biggest experiment the AFL has launched in recent years – and right now, Gather Round looks like a success.

Nine teams descended on South Australia over the weekend for a massive round of footy, so here’s the top five moments from gather round.

5. Zach Tuohy Runs and Kicks.

In a game where five players kicked four goals each, it’s hard to have the best goal of the day.

But in the second quarter, Geelong’s Zach Tuohy received the ball from Jeremy Cameron, evaded the West Coast defender and kicked it checkside for a magical goal.

4. Wilmot’s pocket.

Darcy Wilmot’s only kicked three goals in his short career, but his third was something special.

In Saturday’s Brisbane v North Melbourne Clash in Mt Barker, the 19-year-old midfielder produced a major goal-of-the-year contender.

And his celebration wasn’t too bad either.

3. Tom Papley’s six big ones.

Throughout Friday night’s Richmond v Sydney clash, Tom Papley seemed to be everywhere.

Although he didn’t hit the scoreboard in the first half – after the half time siren, he dominated.

The 26-year-old finished the night with six huge goals and 25 crucial disposals.

It’s just Tom Papley’s world and we’re living in it.

2. Himmelberg the Hero.

It wasn’t predicted to be one of the games of the round, but the GWS v Hawthorn clash on Sunday couldn’t have finished in more exciting fashion.

Hawthorn led the game with two minutes to go. But Harry Himmelberg wasn’t having that.

He took an absolute screamer of a mark in the forward 50 to convert for a goal and put the Giants in front.

Unsatisfied, he somehow teleported to the defensive 50 and prevented a goal on the line from Hawthorn to secure GWS’s win.

1. Gather Round.

Yeah, the best moment of the round is the round itself – but you have to admit – Adelaide put on a great show.

Nine games, one state. Gather Round has been a resounding success.

The AFL’s confirmed Gather Round will stay in SA for at least the next three seasons, and we’re all looking forward to more.
