Fyre Festival’s Billy McFarland to Repay His Victims by (Checks Notes) Selling Fyre Fest Merch

Sounds like another foolproof plan.

Even when he’s behind bars, people can’t stop buying crap from Billy McFarland.

The disgraced entrepreneur is best known for his infamous Fyre Festival, which led to his arrest for fraud and six years of imprisonment. He now owes $US24 million to his cheated investors, $US2 million to a ticketing vendor, and a further $US150,000 to victims of a separate ticketing scam that came after Fyre Festival (all covered in Netflix’s documentary Fyre).

Unfortunately, the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office hasn’t been able to recover that money from McFarland’s "traceable" assets, Vulture reports.

However, they did find $US240,00 in a bank account and "two large boxes containing Fyre-branded T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts and other clothing items that were intended for sale at the Fyre Festival."

(We’re assuming these items weren’t bought at the time of the event because everyone was fighting over cheese sandwiches or forming a junta to rule over the new society of trust fund kids and social media influencers left to fend for themselves in Fyre’s Bahamas-based shantytown.)

The Office has appraised the items, to ensure they aren’t "fakes or counterfeit", and they’re planning on selling them via an online auction, to distribute profits back to McFarland’s victims.

"We know that there is tremendous interest in these items in the NY metro area in particular," they told Vulture.

Before you race to smash open your piggy bank and donate your last cents to the McFarland Fund, remember, there are plenty of other victims of the Fyre Festival who could use the money too.

Meanwhile, McFarland’s ex-business partner Ja Rule (who has long claimed he was scammed by McFarland too) was last seen on Twitter using 'Fyre' as a pun.
