"Fortnite" Could Be Playable on iPhone Again Through Nvidia’s GeForce Now

Can we cheat the system?

Back in August, we said a sad goodbye to the iOS mobile version of Fortnite when Apple banned the game after developers Epic Games went behind Apple’s back and broke one of their fundamental rules.

Basically, Epic Games offered users within the Fortnite app the option to purchase virtual currency from Epic, which went against Apple's rules. However, instead of backing down, Epic basically dared Apple to ban the Fortnite app and Apple was like ‘lol okay then'.

And that was that. So, after shedding many tears, most of us just accepted the fact that if we wanted to play Fortnite it was going to have to be via another platform.

But now—in a super weird way—Fortnite might come back to our iPhones and iPads later in the year.

Before you get too excited, it’s not going to be in the way you’re used to. Instead, according to a report by the BBC, Fortnite will be available to play through Nvidia’s cloud gaming service GeForce Now.

Supposedly, GeForce Now will run inside the Safari web browser instead of as an individual app, which is how Fortnite is getting around the ban.

Basically, Epic Games and Nvidia have worked around Apple’s restrictions for phones and tablets after Apple made a statement to Business Insider stating that iPhone and iPad users can use streaming applications through Safari.

“Developers can choose to reach all iPhone and iPad users over the web through Safari and other browsers on the App Store,” they said.

So yes, Fortnite would be available to play on iOS devices but only for anyone willing to download Nvidia’s streaming service and play it through Safari.

In this case, the game may actually look better thanks to higher-fidelity graphics, which may sound like a surprise, but it is being streamed from a PC.

You may want to keep in mind though that while it might look better, there is a chance that it might not be as responsive as the original app.

There is no exact date yet for when Fortnite will be made available again, just that it’s set before 2021. So, watch this space.
