Here’s Our First Look at Margot Robbie’s ‘Barbie’ Movie

Hop into Barbie’s pink convertible, we’re going for a ride!
Murmurs of a Barbie movie starring Aussie queen Margot Robbie started circulating in 2018, and we’ve finally got a squiz at it.

It’s everything we could have dreamed of, with Margot flaunting a blonde voluminous ‘do in the front seat of her ride.
The film is directed by Greta Gerwig, who has churned out brilliant female-led, films such as Little Women and Ladybird in the past few years. And the script was co-written with her hubby, Noah Baumbach (director of Marriage Story). It’s a Ken-and-Barbie typa power couple.
It’s gonna be a star-studded cast, with Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Simu Liu and Will Ferrell joining the pink-tinted fantasy world.

At its unveiling at CinemaCon on Tuesday, Warner Bros. also announced the release date. Fetch your best 'material gworl' outfit for 21 July 2023, because Barbie’s pulling up in your neighbourhood.
It’ll be released the same day as Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated Oppenheimer, but we’re hedging bets that millennials and Gen Z will be keenly headed to Barbieland.

When the film was officially announced in 2019, Margot commented on the significance of Barbie in young children’s lives.
"Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child's journey to self-discovery," she said.
"Over the brand's almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president."

We don’t have much info on the plot, with IMDb simply summarising “a doll living in 'Barbieland' is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world.”
For now, it’s left to our imagination. Hey Siri, play “Barbie Girl” by Aqua.
