Festival Guide 101: How to Stay Safe and Have Fun This Festival Season

Vibing, thriving & surviving in the hot heat 🙌
It’s that time of year again – Aussie festival season And there are heaps of different festivals across Australia you might be attending. Or maybe you’re attending your first one yet and not sure what to expect.
Whether it’s Wildlands, Laneway, or just hitting up a local festival with your mates, one things for sure, you want to have the best time ever without any dramas.
We’ve put together the ultimate Aussie festival guide for staying safe and living out your main character moment.
Stick with your squad.
Festivals can be a lot more fun with your mates. Plus, it is way easier to navigate the crowd with a squad. Make sure your group has a designated meeting spot, like at the front of the venue, or near a landmark you can’t miss.
If you all feel comfortable, share your locations with each other through a location sharing app in case someone goes missing mid-set. This will make it a whole lot easier to find each other, especially if the service is bad.
And don’t forget to communicate. Festivals often have sketchy internet connection. So even if you’re just going to the bathroom for a few minutes, tell your friends.
Slip, slop, slap.
Let’s be real, sunburn isn’t fun for anyone. Make sure you slap on your SPF and reapply every few hours to save yourself that sunburn pain. Future you will thank you. You could also get a hat that goes with your outfit, leaving you protected against the sun and stylish.
Hydrate and chill.
The Aussie heat doesn’t come to play. Make sure you are regularly drinking water and staying hydrated. This is a good excuse to take some time to chill. You don’t need to fully send it from the moment you arrive. Save some energy for your fave artists and grab a snack, sit down and hydrate.
No matter what you’re drinking, make sure you’ve always got an eye on your drink and don’t accept any food or drinks from anyone you don’t know.
Dress to impress (and survive).
Your festival fit is everything, but so is comfort. Maybe a festival is not the perfect time to break in your new Doc Martens (even though they are cute). And we’d probably leave those pleather pants at home. Comfy shoes are a must, as well as tops and pants you can dance and move around in.
You should also be mindful of your other fashion accessories. Make sure your bag (if you’re carrying one) is zipped up. Maybe leave any valuables or excessive cash at home and, it goes without saying, but don’t leave your valuables with a stranger.
Know your limits.
Festivals can be wild and it’s easy to get carried away. Keep it chill and know your boundaries. Do what is right for you and the people around you.
Be the friend everyone needs.
Someone looking a little lost? Ask if they’re okay and find them help if need be.
Make sure you stick together with your friends and keep an eye on one another. It’s also a good idea to familiarise yourself with the first aid tent, just in case anything goes wrong.
Have fun!
This is the time to sing and dance to your fave songs and make memories with your friends.
Stay safe and have fun festival-goers 🕺
