Fart-gate! Controversy Over Conflicting Reports That Farting Sheep Forced An Emergency Plane Landing

Step aside, shoe-gate. We finally have the news story that will define our generation.
Last week, the Aviation Herald published a damning report that suggested a Singapore Airlines Boeing 747-400 freighter was forced to make an emergency landing in Bali when the “exhaust gasses and manure” of the 2,186 sheep on board set off the smoke indicator in the cargo bay. Yes, the sheep supposedly farted the plane down. Needless to say, the internet was delighted by the anecdote. (Especially after learning that there was no “trace of fire, heat or smoke” and that all aboard the flight were safe.) But was it all a fabrication? Conspiracy theorists on the Aviation Herald's comments thread (who we pray were screaming “wake up, sheeple!”) doubted the 747’s ability to carry that many sheep. Singapore Airlines have since confirmed that the plane was diverted on its trip from Adelaide to Kuala Lumpur, but not because of said farts. In fact… the plane wasn’t even carrying sheep.
