Jim Carrey Is Being Sued For The Wrongful Death Of His Ex-Girlfriend

Jim Carrey is being sued for the wrongful death of his late ex-girlfriend.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the husband of Cathriona White filed a civil suit against Carrey in Los Angeles today, alleging the Ace Ventura star procured the drugs she used to commit suicide.

The 28-year-old White passed away last September. Though she was married to Mark Burton, she and Carrey had an off-again, on-again relationship that lasted three years. They had split shortly before she took her own life.

Burton's suit suggests the actor used “his immense wealth and celebrity status to illegally obtain and distribute highly addictive and, in this case deadly, controlled substances” while using a fake name.

The coroner’s report apparently found that the substances used in White’s death belonged to three pill bottles “bearing the name ‘Arthur King’,” the complaint continues.

Burton is also accusing Carrey of knowing White suffered from depression and had attempted suicide in the past.

Besides statutory and punitive damages, Burton is seeking funeral and burial expenses.

Carrey has responded to the suit via a statement.

“It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honour against the evil in this world," he said.

“I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control. I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”
