Facebook is Hiring 3,000 People to Block Murder, Violence and Other Bad Things on FB Live

Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced on Wednesday that Facebook was hiring people to monitor Facebook for violent content.

He announced via his own social media platform that 3,000 people were being hired for its community operations team. Their primary role will be to monitor Facebook Live and any video content that’s uploaded to check that it’s within Facebook’s community standards (i.e. not illegal, extremely violent).

It comes in light of the recent spate of crimes committed by users who are broadcasting via Facebook Live.

Last month in the U.S., a man used Facebook Live to broadcast the murder of a random man in the street. It took Facebook three hours to remove the video which led to a lot of criticism for its seeming lack of failsafes on the live broadcasting feature.

There are rumours that Zuckerberg is mulling over a potential presidential bid for the 2020 election in the U.S. which means that any negative coverage of Facebook would be a serious setback if he were to announce his presidential intentions.

He's basically already the President of social media, but how does President Zuckerberg sound to you? In the U.S., anything's possible.
