Two Thirds Of Young Aussies Are Stressing About Exams More Than Ever – Here’s How You Can Avoid It

Don’t stress the tests.
ATAR Exams are just around the corner, and as always, they have the potential to be one of the most stressful experiences of a person’s young life.
Every year, thousands of young Australians go through the same process, studying like mad and worrying about results and their future.
Exams are of course, super important, but overstressing about them can actually harm your performance.
New research from ReachOut Australia has shown that study stress is on the rise in a big way in Australia, and the effects can be really damaging.
The data showed that in young people aged 16 – 25, two thirds said study stress is their biggest daily concern.
Nearly half of students surveyed said they were extremely stressed about their studies.

This has some huge impacts, including lowering motivation and sleep quality as well as affecting mood changes, the ability to focus and impacting physical health.
ReachOut CEO Ashley de Silva said the data shows a devastating impact on young people.
“ReachOut’s new data on study stress shows that almost half of young people in Australia are not only stressed about exams and study, but that the stress is also having a significant impact on their mental health, wellbeing, their physical health, and their lives more generally.”
Ashley said while it’s important to study hard, it’s just as important to be protecting your mental and physical health.
“With Year 12 exams around the corner now is an important time to remind students to be proactive about their mental health as they work through these last few weeks of high school. Small actions like waking up at the same time each day, taking breaks during study sessions and staying connected to the people who are important in your life can make a big difference.”

In this stressful time, recognising what good mental health looks like and how to attain it is super important.
