Ex-Fifth Harmoniser Lauren Jauregui Drops Violent, Sweary Solo Single “Expectations”

Being first has its advantages.

Zayn, famously, won the One Direction exodus by jumping ship first and going solo.

And Camila Cabello hasn’t looked back since abandoning Fifth Harmony, which effectively had no choice but to fold following her exit.

Still, as Buzz Aldrin says, "Second comes right after first!" Harry Styles and the rest of 1D have done just fine rolling solo themselves. And former Fifth Harmoniser Normani had a sleeper hit with “Love Lies” this year.

Now here comes Lauren Jauregui, another ex-Harmoniser, who made a scene-stealing appearance on Halsey’s "Strangers" in 2017, dropping her first solo single, "Expectations". And how’s she differentiating herself from Camila and company? With a black-and-white video in which she slits the throat of her doppelgänger!

Language and violence warning.

"Expectations" is definitely a darker, more mature sound for Jauregui, who wrote the song herself. She suggested to Rolling Stone that "writing" wasn’t exactly allowed when she was in Fifth Harmony. Still, she makes a point to indulge in a sultry dance break during the song’s guitar solo. Prepare to have your expectations both met and challenged!
