Erik Lamela Scores Insane Rabona Goal in the EPL

Could his goal be the GOAT?

Tottenham Hostpur’s Erik Lamela has cemented his name in football history with an audacious Rabona goal scored in the North London Derby against Arsenal.

For those wondering, the Rabona is a technique of striking the ball with a player's kicking leg crossed behind the back of their standing leg.

The manoeuvre is often used to deceive an opposing player. Sneaky stuff.

The Argentine winger received a lay-off pass from Brazilian forward Lucas Moura, and cleverly executed the famously difficult move with ease to open the scoring against the Gunners.

Unfortunately for Lamela, the rest of the game didn’t quite go to plan as Tottenham slumped to a 2–1 defeat to Arsenal thanks to a doubtful late penalty slotted home by French striker Alexandre Lacazette.

If Lamela was the hero of the game, he put forward a good argument to be the villain too, with a second booking in the 76th minute earning him a red card.

The loss sees Jose Mourinho’s side remain in 8th place in the table on 45 pts, while Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal fail to gain any places in 10th despite the win.

Elsewhere, Manchester City continue to dominate the season, comfortably sitting top of the table on 71 pts, 14 ahead of Manchester United.

This isn’t the first time Lamela has scored a goal of this quality.

Back in October 2014, the winger showed his flare in the Europa League against Asteras Tripolis, this time picking up a loose ball on the edge of the box and hitting a Rabona that wrong-footed the keeper.

Moving down under, the A-league is making headlines for all the right reasons with a 4–3 nail-biter between Western Sydney Wanderers and Wellington Phoenix.

Wanderers forward Mitch Duke scored a sublime chested volley to level the scores, but goal of the game—and easily goal of the season—goes to Wellington’s Cameron Devlin’s longshot from well outside the box.
