Are you a budding musician, aspiring game dev or want a career in entertainment management? Here’s how to get started ✨

This article is presented in partnership with JMC Academy.

If you’ve dreamed of breaking into the entertainment industry but don’t know where to start – don’t panic.

The idea of working in the arts may sound like a far away dream, but have you considered the different steps you can take to get there?

We love showcasing young people making waves, so what better way to show you where a creative course can take you than highlighting students and grads from JMC Academy.

From performing and working at huge events, showcasing games at PAX Australia, to starting a career in entertainment business management – here’s where JMC Academy could take you!

JMC Group “Worm Girlz” Took the Stage at Laneway.

Imagine you and your friends forming the ultimate band during your studies at JMC, and then  being chosen to perform at Laneway.

That’s exactly what happened for Jade, Angie, Bella, Lauren and Nikolai, who debuted their first single “Dirt” in November last year.

This group is made up of fem, non-binary members who are all about creating an inclusive and safe space for everyone at their shows.

They already have incredible experience under their belt touring interstate, and repped JMC earlier this year in Laneway Festival’s huge lineup which included the likes of Stormzy and Dominic Fike.

JMC + SXSW Sydney = the Ultimate Collab.

Gaining real-life experience in your chosen field is invaluable, so when JMC partners with huge events like South By South West (SXSW) Sydney, it gives students the ultimate opportunity to showcase their skills in front of industry professionals.

SXSW created an amazing networking hub, with conferences and mixers being held right on the JMC Sydney campus.

Students who studied entertainment, design, music, film and television, and animation collaborated on an alumni showcase at the festival, and games students even got to present their work as part of the SXSW Games Showcase.

And speaking of gaming…

Games Design Graduates are Leveling Up at PAX Australia.

Games Design Alumni Billy Green was sent to PAX Australia by JMC to present his game Grove Keeper.

While studying Billy knew the importance of having experience under his belt before looking for work. He took it upon himself to work on Grove Keeper as his portfolio piece.

He applied for JMC’s graduate program that would allow him to showcase his game at PAX, where he received incredible responses and feedback from attendees who were lucky enough to get their hands on Grove Keeper.

Enter Your Entertainment Business Management Era.

Since graduating from JMC in 2018, Sophie Brown is now a A&R (Artists and repertoire) and Marketing Manager at music company [PIAS].

At [PIAS], Sophie role allows her to deliver world-class artists and label services. The company has worked with talent such as Sia, Robyn, Björk, and more.

Sophie credits her experiences as JMC student for kickstarting her career and allowing her to connect with people within her dream industry.

“I moved into a JMC internship position at Yours and Owls and from there my role grew and grew… The connections I made during my studies at JMC were invaluable… They’re my friends, my lecturers and everyone in-between. I am constantly running into people that went to JMC as well”.

Never underestimate the power of networking!
