Emmy Awards 2022: Tears, Fur Coats and The King

Emmy Awards 2022: Tears, Fur Coats and The King

All the biggest moments in fashion and drama, plus a bit of TV.

TV’s biggest night of the year is done and dusted with some huge shows and stars walking away with their Emmys.

As always, the ceremony was filled with wild outfits, inspiring speeches, and awkward moments, so we thought we’d bring you the best of the 2022 Emmy Awards.

All the best-dressed.

As always, the Emmys red carpet saw a huge amount of glitz and glamour, with some iconic fits being debuted, and some … let’s say interesting choices.

As she always does, Lizzo absolutely brought it with a giant red gown that probably takes the cake for the night’s best dressed.

Lizzo also took home the Emmy for Best Reality Competition Program for her series, Watch Out for the Big Grrls.

You could tell Lizzo was so happy as she accepted the award.

“When I was a little girl, all I wanted to see was me in the media – someone fat like me, black like me, beautiful like me,” she said.

We also saw some high-key fashion from comedian Jerrod Carmichael, rocking the shirtless fur coat look a la Diddy, as well as Zendaya channelling Grace Kelly in an all-black dress that looked amazing as she accepted her second Best Actress in a Drama Award for Euphoria.

Of course, there’s always some hit and misses – we’re not totally sure what Pete Davidson was going for with this outfit.

The speeches that made us well up.

Lizzo’s speech was amazing and so powerful, but our pick for the best speech of the night has to go to star of Abbott Elementary Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Sheryl brought the audience to a standing ovation, and delivered probably the best Emmy acceptance speech of all time.

“To Anyone who has ever, ever had a dream and thought your dream wasn't, wouldn't, couldn't come true, I am here to tell you this is what believing looks like,” she said.

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

The awkward moments.

No Hollywood awards ceremony would be complete with out its fair share of awkward moments, gaffs and strange speeches, and this year had plenty.

The weirdest include Jennifer Coolidge dancing off stage as the band played her off and Jason Sudeikis apparently not preparing an acceptance speech after his win for Ted Lasso.

But the strangest moment for the 2022 Emmy Awards has to be the Succession speech.

Succession came away with the coveted Best Drama Series award, and showrunner Jesse Armstrong kind of took the opportunity to have a little go at the new King Charles.

“Big week for Succession,” he said, “new King in the UK, at least for us. Evidently a bit more voting in our winning than Prince Charles.”

Oof.

With that somewhat off-colour speech, that wraps up another year at the Emmy Awards, and although the drama’s done for now, there’s a huge slate of awards ceremonies set to be held over the summer.
