"Dude", "K" and "Salty" are Apparently Aussie Teens' Fave Words

Sup, baes! Wanna dab because YOLO?

According to a new survey by Facebook Messenger and YouGov Galaxy, what I’ve just written is probably one of the most embarrassing sentences in the (basically) English language.

'Sup', 'bae', 'dab' and 'YOLO' are all on the way out of the lexicon, with 500 surveyed teens (all between the ages of 13 and 19) saying they barely use them anymore.

However, the surprisingly timeless 'dude' remains the "fave word for teen guys", though pop culture begs to differ.

The survey also found 'K' is the "fave word for teen gals". (Yes, a letter can be a word! What do you think 'I' is?)

'Salty' and 'savage' are still pretty popular too, while 'peng', 'eets' and 'peak' are on the rise.

If you’re unfamiliar with those last few, perhaps because you’re an old person posing as an undercover reporter at a local high school, you really need to become acquainted with them, or face being exposed.

With the help of our good friends at Urban Dictionary:

'Peng': "A very positive word used casualy [sic] to show how attracted etc you are to something/someone."

'Eets': "Short for Sweet, meaning awesome, describing something that is preferable happening."

Now, you may think you know 'Peak' but be wary of the multiple definitions: "It can refer to an excellent or top quality situation/object/event/person. Curiously, it can also refer to a very negative situation."

Good luck out there!

(Yes, this GIF is as played out as 'bae', but it has perhaps never been more relevant.)
