The Dude Behind That “Game Of Thrones” Twist Wants To Say, “Sorry!”

A certain thing happened on yesterday’s Game of Thrones episode.

We want to talk about it. So, fair warning, spoilers are about to fly at you thick and fast.

This is the internet. If you are not up to date with GOT, you should know this is not a safe place for you right now.

So, spoilers ahoy.

After months of speculation and, in some cases, flat-out lying on the part of producers and actors, Game of Thrones officially brought Jon Snow back to life.

He was resurrected by the Red Woman herself, Melisandre, in Season 6's second instalment, "Home". During the closing moments, the camera hovered over Snow’s corpse for a seeming eternity as we awaited his return from the afterlife. When it seemed all was lost – and Melisandre exited the room, defeated – Snow’s eyes opened and he took his first, big breath since, you know, dying.

Within moments, Entertainment Weekly released a picture of their upcoming cover story on actor Kit Harington, with the words “He’s Alive” emblazoned on the cover.

Jerks.

Wondering what Harington has to say in the interview about the subterfuge required to keep his undeath a secret?

“Sorry!”

“I’d like to say sorry for lying to everyone,” he elaborated.

“I’m glad that people were upset that he died. I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care. Or it would just be, ‘Fine, Jon Snow’s dead.’ But it seems like people had a, similar to the Red Wedding episode, kind of grief about it. Which means something I’m doing — or the show is doing — is right.”

Of course, the speculation now turns to what Jon Snow will be like this time around.

As Vulture notes, his isn’t the show’s first resurrection, with the previously returned Beric Dondarrion making a point of saying, “Every time I come back, I’m a bit less.”

The undead characters of GOT also maintain their injuries in the next version of “life”. The resurrected Lady Stoneheart – not a fixture of the show (yet?) – can barely speak, on account of her slashed throat. Also, she has a stone heart, after being left dead for too long.

A relieved fandom can now rest easy knowing their sweet, sweet Kit Harington is not gone for good. But they should be wary: Game of Thrones is one of television’s cruelest shows, and if you think all of this will lead to a happy ending for Jon Snow, you just haven’t been watching close enough.
