Donald Trump Will Host An AMA This Wednesday; Would Win The Election If Held Today

Actual Presidential candidate Donald Trump will do anything to distract from the Democratic National Convention this week, and we mean anything. As in, an Ask Me Anything.
A press release from Trump’s camp announced that the Republican nominee for America’s highest office will host a Reddit AMA on Wednesday evening, 6:30pm ET (that’s Thursday morning for Aussies).
According to CNN, his answers will be posted on “The_Donald” subreddit, which is the kind of place you can find descriptions of Trump as “our God Emperor, the Nimble Navigator”, so that’s fun. (AMAs are usually hosted on “IAmA”.)
“The_Donald” has more than 180,000 subscribers.
The ‘Ask Me Anything’ session will take place precisely when President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are set to spruik presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. (She will officially receive the nomination early this week.)
On the one hand, it’s a genius move by Trump, as it guarantees social media will be flooded with his responses, right when the DNC would rather attention be turned to its big name speakers.
On the other hand, you can expect social media (and the AMA itself) to be flooded with questions regarding his race-baiting policies, not to mention further comparisons with historic despots.
You have to wonder if it’s even worth it, as the DNC is already mired in controversy, following the leak of damning emails that showed the Democratic party favoured Hillary Clinton over her nearest competitor Bernie Sanders.
DNC head Debbie Wasserman-Schultz handed in her resignation on the convention’s eve as a result, though that hasn’t stopped ‘Bernie or Bust’ supporters from booing speakers during the DNC’s first day.
Remember: The American election is still four months away. This thing ain’t ending soon.
On FiveThirtyEight, the stat-heavy blog run by Nate Silver (who correctly predicted the 2012 election with startling accuracy), Clinton is still considered the favourite to win the election in November (with a 53.9 per cent chance of winning).
However, if the election was held today, FiveThirtyEight says Trump would likely win (with a 53.8 per cent shot at victory).
Sleep well.
